1st advent

Så tenner vi et lys i kveld,
vi tenner det for glede.
Det står og skinner for seg selv
og oss som er til stede.
Så tenner vi et lys i kveld,
vi tenner det for glede
Today it is 1st advent and we have a tradition on our home to light the first candle. And say this beautiful advent poem which Ingrid Hagerup has written. She has written one verse for each candle. It is impossible to translate in to good english, but I will try, so you can get a little understanding what it says. The lines will not rime in english. Please forgive me for my bad translation. If anyone have any better please tell me. Perhaps you have a own verse you say??
Tonight we light one candle
we light it for joy
It stands there shining by itself
and we who present are
Tonight we light one candle
we light it for joy.
I you want I can try to translate verse number two next sunday.

This is one of my table runners. I love this one. Purple is my advent colour and I love angels. I made this several years ago and when this come out of the box and on my table I can start to look forward to christmas.
In the window the candles are on and they will shine throug all advent and christmas. I also have one in my sewingroom. And another advent table cloth is on this table. You perhaps recognze this table from my favorite spot.

this table runner is on my kitchen table.

Beautiful poem and table runners. I'm a firm beliver that poems don't have to rhyme as long as the meaning gets across.

Oh, pretty!

My favorite is the solid purple one under the single candle. Simple to make but visually very nice!

thanks for sharing the poem. It's interesting to read about the different traditions that everyone has. Thanks for showing your candles in the window because i was going to ask if you could show a photo of it.

The purple table runners are all very nice. Hope you do share the next poem with us.

The table runners are lovely! I am so glad to see the advent color purple. When my kids were little we did the advent wreath and candles, it was a very important part of our holiday.
