First finish in 2011

It feels like I have a pile of projects to finish right now. I have seen a lot of UFO lists on several blogs. I have no idea how many I have. And I like to call my projects WISP's (Work In Slow Progress). I have thrown several away during these years, because I know I never are going to finish them. Or I have sold them on flee market at our quilt guild. Or just given them away to somebody else that perhaps want to finish them. And I do not feel bad about it at all.

My tast for colours, fabrics and patterns have changed during the progress. What I started one or two (or more) years ago is perhaps not what I want to make today. But one thing I have learned is that when I buy new fabrics, I try to make use of them right now. I do not store them to wait for the perfect project to come. I start cutting in them as soon as I can. Because it is now they are pretty. I have a lot of fabrics that have been stored in boxes several years, but now when I look at them, they are not as pretty as they was at the time they were bought.

So one goal for 2011 is that whenever a new fabric is in the house I will use it.

First finish this year !!! A new table runner.

I made three table runners before Christmas. Two was going to be Christmas gifts and got the binding on right away. This one was for me and today I sewed down the binding on it. Now I can remove the Christmas table cloth that was on my kitchen table and put this on. I have used some of my favorite fabrics in this table runner and that was an inspiration to get it finished. I think it looks beautiful on my table.

Saying for today:

Cats do care. For example they know instinctively
what time we have to be at work in the morning
and they wake us up twenty minutes
before the alarm goes off.

You are so right about our changing tastes in colours and styles - I have a huge stash that is proof of that. Your table runner is just gorgeous and as for you WISP, I have renamed mine to PHD's, you see then people think I'm rather clever (LOL) rather than indecisive (projects half done).
Have a wonderful day

I love your table runner. We are currently "in" as the weather has been VERY WINTERY for us here in South Carolina and everything is pretty much closed all the Government office and most Businesses closed because of the dangerous driving conditions. I should be sewing on the RRCB Mystery but all I want to do is hibernate. I'm very proud of you for your first finish.

WISP! Det likte jeg! Heretter adopterer jeg det begrepet. Herlig. Min samvittighet for en del innhold i skapene mine lysnet betraktelig!Men jeg tør ikke love å bruke alle stoffer jeg kjøper i år...

Great work! I love the applique on the table runner. I totally agree with you regarding getting rid of WISPS that you know you will never finish...someone else might love them. ...and fabrics....well.....whenever I go thru my stash I have the odd "what WAS I thinking" moment when I look at some of the fabrics. Not so pretty to me now...LOL...and the stash remains just that...a stash and it seems I don't ever get to use any of it....the lure of new fabrics is too strong. But I have made 2011 the year of giving away or using the stash...there are fabrics in there that should be having major birthdays! have a great week.

Oh that is a good name- "WISP". And the table topper is wonderful, good reason to put the holiday cloth away.

What a lovely tablerunner, you will get a lot of enjoyment from it. Good plan on using your fabrics as you get them,I have saved fabric for the 'perfect' project before and then never used it! Love the picture of the cats on the quilts - bliss!!!

Your table runner is so pretty. I know what you mean about fabrics losing their appeal over the years. I have gotten where I do not buy yardage unless I have a project to use them in. Now Fat Quarters - I can't resist.

That's the right attitude! I don't know how anyone gets a tattoo. What would you choose that you would like in a year or ten's time? I'm not that committed to my fabric purchases, and I really, really loved them when I bought them or I wouldn't have spent the money. I enjoy your blog.

Now those are powerful words May Britt... Using all your new fabrics, as you get them!! I will have to start now and just plough through all those piles of delicious fabrics that are stored in wonderfully large tubs... What fun...and I'll have to tell everyone that May Britt told me too. And I will have to get back into Blogland again. A year off...and I'm on my way back.
Rainbow smiles... Gloria

Re cat quote.....and if the call to arise is unanswered then the modus operandi is to pull down skirts hanging on skirt hangers on the door..nice fresh things you have selected to wear and would prefer not to have thrown on the carpet and danced on and rolled in by a cat.

What you say about loving your fabric when you purchase it and then not loving it as much when you look at it a few years later... SO TRUE!
The only fabrics that I love year after year are the flour sack, Darlene Zimmerman prints, etc. They just keep getting prettier each year. I love your flower applique on your table runner:)
