NQF's annual quilt meeting 2011 - part three

Another competition was Circle of friends. Twelve of these circle quilts is going to The festival of quilts 2011 in Birminham. If you want to see which twelve that got the most votes, take a look here. These quilts really gave me some ideas :)

The competition "Soup made on a nail" had a total of 38 quilts. 17 quilts in the open class and 21 in traditional class. And here is photos of all the quilts. There was a lot of fun interpretations of the theme. Enjoy the photos.

If you all wonder why I have not been blogging the last week/weekend it is because I have been inTromsø at the Norwegian Quilters associations annual quilt meeting. And I did not bring my computer :) I have had some wonderful days together with almost 400 other quilt ladies. And I have a lot of photos to show you. So lets start.................

First I will show you the winner in the

This quilt is made my Sølvi Krokeide and is called "Mood Indingo". It is a wonderful quilt with a lot of details. Sølvi has won viewers choise before and you can see another of her quilts here.

Never thought this would happend :) Frida and Rusken have accepted eachother for a long time, but never have they been sleeping so close to eachother. I guess Frida has resigned and accepted that this turbo speedy kitten is to stay in this house.

Using my scraps

You know I have finished my Yoko Saito purse. Having a lot of scraps left from the sewing, I planned to make a makeup purse to go with it.

Starting to cut and sew today together with my two good sewing helpers. Both Frida and Rusken loves to sit/sleep on the sewingtable. Rusken is a naughty boy sometimes, stealing my fabric stripes and running away with them.

This is the makeup purse I made from the scraps. It is made in the same style as the Yoko Saito purse. But this time I sewed the log cabin together with machine. But I handquilted all the stripes. And guess what.......no scraps left from this project. Just a tiny few ones that are thrown in the waste basket.

Voila....a makeup purse that goes with my Yoko Saito purse.
Now I can go partying.

I've had my DS and his girlfriend visiting this weekend, and Rusken really had a good time being spoiled.

Have you noticed something new about my blog.

Yesterday I got a mail from the talented Madame Samm saying:

"MAY hello...would you like a new banner?"

I jumped in my chair, reading the mail over and over again. WOW.....Madame Samm had an idea about a new banner for my blog. WOW....hurried to answer her, yes of course I wanted a new banner. I have for a long time thought about making a new banner, but I am not so clever on such things, so it have been delayed and delayed. And my previous banner got blurry and not nice when I upgraded my blog some time ago.

In a short time I had the first testbanner in my mail. And I loved it. After some mailing, I loved the new banner she came up with even more. My wish was to have a little cat down in a corner. And look at that cute cat she added.

This banner is so me. Red is my colour, I love the stitchery heart and the cuuuuuuute little cat. For you that do not know it already my blogname abyquilt has a meaning. ABY stands for the abyssinian cats and QUILT is just for Quilting = therefore ABYQUILT.

And Madame Samm has nailed my banner.
THANK YOU SO MUCH.
It is purrrrrrrrrrrrrfect :)

A mother has to brag

The local paper had a interview with my DD yesterday. Just have to show it to you. You can click on the photo ro read it, but it is only in Norwegian. I am so proud of both my children that are so talented in different ways.

Done!

It took much more longer time than I had expected. It was hard sewing the binding inside the bag, and it was hard sewing the handles on to the purse. And when all this was done I added a little pocket inside the bag. Had to sew it on by hand, and now my arm hurts. Both front pieces are sewed by hand. It was a fun technique Yoko Saito learned us. I am used to do handpiecing and making templates, but this time we just had to cut not even stripes of the fabric, and just sew log cabin blocks with no thinking how it would look like. Then all blocks was layed on a template and appliqued together. All quilting on the fronts are done by hand. Luckily the sides are machinequilted. So you see there is a lot of work by hand on this bag.

Now I have a new purse. And I love it.

Just sewing

Today I was in the mood for a WISP. About one year ago, at the Norwegian Quilt Associations annual meeting, I had the pleasure to meet Yoko Saito and I visited her class there. I started so eager on a little purse, made the two front pieces, and then it was put in the drawer. Today I have done the last of the quilting (took me ten minutes), and I during the day I have almost sewed this purse together. Just have some bindings left to do, and sew the handles on. Hope to show you the finished purse tomorrow :)


The last days I have also finished the challenge from Bente. You perhaps remember from previous posts on my blog, that Hanne, Bente and I give eachother challenges. And this time Bente gave us this cute fabric and the challenge sounded: Some says, the bigger the better. I say mini. I can't show you my solution of this challenge yet. You have to wait a few weeks. But I can tell you I am so happy with my result :) And this time it is my turn giving them a challenge. Looking forward to it.
