Presentation and workshop with MaurTua

Today MaurTua visited my quiltgroup giving a presentation of their shop and how they recycle used shirts. They had brought a lot of wonderful quilts to show us.  So from now on I will save all shirts and cut them to pieces.  These two ladies showed us how to make use of everything on the shirt, from the arms, back and front to the cuffs and even the labels inside the shirt to the collars.

Enjoy the photos from the presentation:

After the presentation we started to sew small hearts from recycled wool fabric from mens dresses.

Then the workshop started.  We had all cut a lot of squares from shirts and now we was going to swap squares with eachother.

18 ladies had joined the workshop and we had so much fun during the day.  And here is some photos of what they started to sew.  Remember all this is made from recycled shirts.  It is amazing how many different prints these fabrics has.  I wonder if any man ever have worn a shirt with flies, pink flowers or skulls on, but they do exist in these piles of recycled shirts.

And looking through the bundles of fabric I bought .  The one to the right have a lot of purple fabrics that I want to include in a new project.  The one to the left is a challenge to myself.  I am not used to sew with blue fabrics, but when I see a quilt in blue it intriques me.

Several projects

I guess I am not the only one having a lot of projects going on.  You remember the two boxes from my previous post.  Where I decided to continue prepping This Goes With That hexagons with the red fabrics.  That was because I had other plans with the other box.

001

I am going to make a orange peel quilt using these fabrics.  They are a kind of out of my comfort sone, but I LOVE these fabrics.

002

So this week I have prepped a lot of orange peel blocks.  This will be another perfect #happytravellingproject for my trip to Shipshewana. Only 5 weeks until we are on the plane now. Hope I will meet a lot of blogging friends there.

003

Started to machinequilt my Red Home quilt this week. Decided that I had to do something with the pile of basted quilts.  Quilting a little now and then because my neck is not feeling so good at the moment.

010

And Rusken really like to join me in the sewingroom.

014

And he loves the Red Home quilt.  So this is cat approved several times.

004

So when Rusken is sleeping on the Red Home quilt and I am not able to machinequilt on it, I’ve been handquilting on this little quilt.

007

We have already had several frost nights and it was cold this morning when I took photos of these cute snowmen.  This is blocks I gave Hanne for her adventcalendar last year and we were sewing it together.  But with all the Christmas preparations and then spring and summer came it was not finished.  Just three blocks done.

019

Today I have stitched and appliqued 4 blocks.  Hope to finish the last two blocks this weekend and then I can sew the quilt together.  Each little block is so fast to make, so why did I put it away last Christmas.

Tomorrow will be an exciting day together with ladies from my quiltgroup. Will tell you more later.

A little of this and a little of that

012

Decided to start prepping som happy travel project for an upcoming travel in november.  Some time ago I started to sew This Goes With That hexagons (design Sue Daley) in red/pink/light fabrics.  Restarted it in blue/brown/light colours, but did not feel happy with those blocks.  Thought some time that I should start it over again in those colours in the box to the right. Hanne is doing this quilt in those fabrics.

013

But as I already had made 9 blocks in red/pink/light colours,,,,,

014

I chose to continue prepping i red/pink/light colours.  And I feel happy with it. You all know red is my favorite colour.

029

More prepped blocks ready to come with me on the plane in 39 days.  Prepped like this in small plasticbags it is so easy to bring along and just sew whenever I want.  And I will prepp more blocks + another easy to do applique project too.

016

Just 78 days to Christmas and I hope I can have this quilt finished to hang it on my wall for this Christmas.  The four center blocks are done and sewed together.

018

And in the last weeks I have stitched the snowflake blocks and appliqued the heartblocks so now I was ready to sew on the outer borders.

030

Just a couple of hours sewing the borders was on the quilt

031

The Scandinavian Christmas quilt (design Lynette Anderson) is now ready to be basted and quilted.

020

I’ve also done some progess on sewing the hexagons for my Aunt Sarahs quilt together.  Rusken had to take a close look at them and think he approved the colours.
