I have alwas had a open house for my childrens friends. They can come and go as they want. They know where the bread and butter is and they are not afraid to start cooking in my kitchen. In just a few months my DD is moving to go to a school and then there will be only the cat and me back home. That will be a big change in my life. But for the moment I enjoy having the teenagers in the house. The house filled with laughter, music and noice.
Another saying for today:
Raising a teenager is like nailing Jell-o to a tree.

We also had open house when our kids were teens. It was messy but I always knew where they were so it was worth it. They leave home soon enough as it is.
It will be a big change but only for so long as they tend to come back and bring all of their messes with them. My dd is coming home from college in one week.
It made me sad when my kids moved out and the constant visitors stopped un less they were home. Then the days each of them got married it was just like the old days again with a herd of their friends in the house getting ready for their weddings. I loved it. Now we are on to grandchildren and it starts all over again!
The good news is they will keep coming back. The Princess has not lived at home for over 8 years, but on each return home she has one or more friends come to spend time . . . some just for dinner and others stay for a week. I still love having them here *s*
You are so lucky to have kids who remove their shoes when they come into your house! You have tranined them very well! I found that when my kids left home, they still came back every weekend to stay! My dd is 27 and she and her husband are down at my place all the time! So even though your daughter goes to college, believe me, she'll be back!
Ahhh yes, that looks just like my front hall!
this reminds me of when my daughter first started at college. She used to bring home her friends (all male) and they would leave all their trainers by the front door. Boy, did those trainers stink! I laughed about it to them all when they were drinking their coffee and eating their biscuits and the next time they came round they all left their trainers in the porch, except for one brand new pair of trainers which were carefully placed inside the front door! Another thing they used to do was eat a whole packet of biscuits whenever they came round which was quite often. I happened to mention this to them and after that they took it in turns to buy the biscuits, which I thought was so sweet of them. Sometimes they would all go off to Ali's room and carry on their chattings, one lad lingered...he said 'I don't know why, but I always seem to get left in the kitchen with the Mum when i go round to friend's houses'....I was only 34 when Ali was 16 so I guess I may have been a bit of a teenage boy's fantasy? It still tickles me really.....where does the time go?
lol... I'm gonna have a shed to leave my foot wears especially for my nike shoes will that make a difference.. let me post a comment on that later once done...
