LOL..... just hate when that happens! And I know every time I take the easier path I end up not liking the outcome...and I always have to point it out to everyone! So in the long run you'll be pleased with the projects and yourself.
Not to worry, we have all done that before! Lucky you had enough fabric to make another bottom and I think you made the right decision. Zips are hard enough to sew in without having less fabric underneath. The bags look beautiful.
