Tour de Fibre–day four: Decisions

002

The blocks are sewn together.  And what do I choose for the outher border.  My plan was to make a swag border with some leafs and flowers.  Or will it be too much.  Do I choose an ordinary plain border? Or do I make the swag border I inteded to do?  Have to sleep on it and wait for your advices.

Saying for today:

No swags... Lykke til, og siden du spør, så trår jeg til...

So cute!

I would just use a plain border - the baskets are intricate enough. Just my 2 cents!

I would have the plain border but I am sure if you chose the swag border it would look amazing as well. I am stitching while watching the Tour - but it means I am up until after midnight every night!

My advice is to go what feels right, even if it isn't what you think might be "right". Not a lot of help, I know, but this needs to come from your heart, not our view!

You really have a gift for choosing colors that look so marvelous together. I'm not saying that your work isn't terrific, but your color choices just really MAKE your pieces stand out. Bravo to you! Keep up the good work.

I can see some more options that would please my eyes, but it all comes down to a matter of taste at the end of the day, doesn't it? :-)
I am sure it will look great when you are done!
Keep up the good work :-)

Go for the swag border - it's a lovely quilt.

being a beginner I cannot say too much but feel if you do a fancy border it might detract from all your wonderful blocks, I would if I had the skill opt for a plain border now what colour I am not sure, something else to ponder on

I love this top! I know I printed the first few of this pattern, but then forgot to print the rest. Sure wish I had them all now that I've seen yours!

I really like the idea of the swag border, but I think your swag is too fat. It needs to be a daintier swag - maybe half as wide as you have it now. Right now it is out of proportion to the pieces in the applique. Cut the width in half and then lay the swag next to the quilt. Keep the flowers simple and in proportion to the block pieces too. If you add a plain border I think it will look like you got lazy and just wanted it finished. The other option would be to do a small vine with flowers on the border, again keeping the proportions. I'm eager to see what you decide.

So how about an approach somewhat in the middle? start with a solid border and then applique a scalloped border on top? Not swags with the open space that would distract ( I agree) but still the nice ribbony curved effect. I think I have totally explained this wrong but I can see it in my minds eye!
