Applecore and quilt trip

001

Always fun to have a visitor in my sewingroom

002

Hanne had brought me Sue Daleys pattern and templates for making applecore.

004

That is one shape I have not liked to sew because of the shape.  Long time when I tried it I struggled hated sewing it.  But now I had agreed to give it a try again.  I know Hanne have felt the same way with this shape.

005

But after reading the pattern and tried doing it the Sue Daley way we both were smiling from ear to ear.  The Sue Daley way is soooooooooo easy………….and fun.  You should all try it!!! Thank you Sue for making it fun to sew.

007

This is what we sewed together this weekend (among eating, chatting and going on a quilt trip).  Mine is the “ordinary” scrappy applecore to the right.  Hanne made a beautiful version of some tiles she have taken photo of earlier this year.

011

And while having a emtpy quiet house last night I did a layout of all my applecores, added some new and I think this will be a lovely pillow.  I have pinned them to the ironing mat and hope Rusken understand this is no toy for him to play with.

008

We also went on a little quilt trip yesterday.  Kreative Ingema was so kind to open she shop for us even on a Sunday.  She also gave us a little demonstration of a new ruler.

009

This is a cute little shop with a very nice shop owner.  We’ll be back soon.

Sewing weekend

006

Yesterday Hanne came for a weekend visit. If you wonder why we are lined up at the porch like this, it is because……

007

we had to take photos of this spectaculare evening sky.

010

Hanne did not sew any stitches this evening.  She and Rusken is so good friends now.

008

Hanne brought birthdaypresents for both me and Rusken.  I was allowed to open mine altough my birthay is not until the end of this month.  Rusken has his birthday today, sept 15th, and he is now a two year old boy.  Look how satisfied he was with his birthdaypresent from Hanne.

015

And so is I (BIG SMILE)  I am so happy with this bobbinholder filled with delicious superior thread.  This is my favorite thread while doing needleturn.  I also got two spools with Yli Select thread.  Hanne tells me it is perfect for handpiecing.

018

So I guess I will have to try this thread today on this pattern.  Hanne have been so kind to buy this for me from her local quiltshop.  And we have agreed to find fabric and test it today (doing it the sew on the line way)

017

But as Christmas is arriving fast I have planned to finish the snowflakes blocks this weekend too.

Scandinavian Christmas progress and Word Verification

001

I have had focus on my Scandinavian Christmas quilt now.  Just realised there is only 3 months to Christmas, and if I want to have this quilt up on the wall this Christmas I better speed up a little bit.

004

All main block is done.  And I have prepped the last six snowflakes blocks that need to be stitched.  I am not that fond of this Transfere Eze.  Find it a little bit sticky and hard to stitch on.  But in this case, sewing all these cross stitched I really started to like it.

005

First block finished with the snowflakes and churn dash blocks.
It was fun finally starting to sew it together.

006

Block two is ready to be done. The most difficult part is to match fabrics for the churn dash blocks.

WORD VERIFICATION

After reading Bonnie Hunters blogpost about the *#&%¤¤# word verification (you should really read her post too) I have decided to remove it from my blog so that you all can leave comments. I have noticed there has been less and less comments on my blog, and I have got a few emails telling me they are having trouble leaving comments because of the word verification. And I have also experinced the same trying to comment on other blogs.  I have spam filter on my blog, and I have noticed that almost all spam that has arrived lately has been detected by the spam filter and it has gone into that box. And all comments is going to my mailbox for me to publish before it shows on my blog, so I can stop spam that way too.

So I hope by doing this I will have you back commenting on my blog Smilefjes

Something new

002

Today some girls from work came together and now I have done something I never have done before.  I have made my first card.

003

It was very fun and I have a lot to learn. There will be some more cards, but my main focus will still be on my quilting.

Focus this month

I had a wonderful time at my vacation in Alanya, but it was good to come back home too.  To my sewingmachine and all projects.

002

I had brought with me some stitchery on my vacation and I really manage to stitch a little bit.  I almost finished the stitchery to the right and this weekend I stitched the rest of it and sewed together the block. It felt so good spending some time by my sewingmachine so I sewed together the two other blocks too.

003

Now I have five blocks finished for the Red Home quilt.  And this will be one of my focus projects in september.  I have already the next block prepped.

004

I have made some progress on Scandinavian Christmas  All main blocks almost done.  Just have to stitch some details on the snowman and the Santa.

005

12 of 18 small blocks are done. Now I have to find more fabric to make the rest of the snowflake blocks. My goal is to have this quilt finished for this Christmas.

006

I also stitched the block on the top when I was on my vacation.  This is the Secret Christmas project in Quiltemagasinet (an norwegian quilt magazine).  Now waiting for part 4 of 5.  Love these cute Santas.

008

And of course I had to start a new stitchery.  Love this new project design Anni Downs. It feels like I am catching a cold so I decided a new projects is the perfect medicine right now.  Relaxing in front of the tv, stitching a new project, a cup of hot tea and a quilt over my feet.

Back home from my Summer vacation

005

Doesn’t this look great.  Warm sand, blue sky, blue ocean and sunshine.
I am now back home from a week in Alanya, Turkey.

001

Thursday 23 august I met Hanne and her husband at the airport, and we started our summer vacation with a glass of champagne.  We was all looking forward to spend some time in the sun, because the weather in Norway this summer has been just rain rain rain and rain.

003

I have visited Alanya once before and one of my favorites to eat is Lavash. It is served as a starter before the meals and I love it.

006

We have had long days at the beach.
Enjoying the sun and swimming in the ocean.

008

Just relaxing, reading and sleeping under the umbrella.

011

Some stitchery on the porch together with a glass of wine.

018We even tried the fish spa.

022

We discovered a shop filled with laces, buttons and thread.

060

where I bought some thread that will be nice to handquilt with.

024

we also found a big yarn shop, where there was cats everywhere

023

and it looked like they was having a good life among all the yarn.

036

Some more sun bathing at the beach

045

eating good food

049

enjoying some good drinks in the evening

053

054

And here we are testing our new glasses by doing the stitchery test.

It has been a wonderful relaxing summer vacation.
Thanks to my great travelling companions.
