Tour de Fibre – day two – old and new projects

001

Day two in TdF and of course I had to start a new project.  Reading Nicolas blog I remembered I too had the project she had started to stitch some place in my sewing room.  And of course I had to find it.  Looking through my box of DMC embroidery yarn I found the colours I wanted to use.

002

Think these clours will be perfect for this stitchery.  It is a Leanne Beasley design.

004

Every time Hanne is visiting we are discussing old and new projects.  And today I showed her some old projects which I think deserves to be finished.  I have started to handquilt this one and it has been in a box for a veeeeeeeeery long time.

006

This is quilt is called And Angels Story and is a Annie Downs design.  Long time since I sewed it together, the outher border is in the box.  Perhaps I should try to finish this one too……some day.

007

Finally some warm temperature outdoors.  Always nice to sit out on the porch stitching. Even better doing it with a friend.

016

Main focus this weekend have been A Tisket A Tasket.  Now I have done all the needleturn applique on the blocks.  But I still have some stitching to do on some of them.  Doing it this evening while watching a movie.  Thanks to Hanne I have figured out how to sew the quilt together.  That means a lot more applique to be done.

017

Some stithing done.  Just had to try out the colours of the thread.

019

And now I will glue some octagons.  Yes a new project, inspired by one Hanne is working on.

Hope you all had a wonderful day two in Tour de Fibre.  Remember that we are also posting on our Tour de Fibre group on Facebook.  The group has lots of wonderful quilters and it is so fun watching their tour in this TdF.

Tour de Fibre–first day

013

Hanne and I have done the Tour de Fibre for several years now, and it is so fun to do it again this year too.  Hanne have also started a group on Facebook, called Tour de Fibre.  We’ve already got a lot of members in this group, all working on a lot of beautiful projects.   Hanne is visiting me this weekend and we are enjoying some quality sewing time together.

018

Rusken have also joined us and he is inspecting Hannes beautiful hexagon blocks.

008

I am working on my A Tisket A Tasket blocks.  And with help from Hanne I have now decided how to sew this quilt together.

009

Block 11 almost done.

007

If you will join us in our Tour de Fibre this year, join the group on Facebook.

020

Let the sewing start.  I will try to blog each day during the Tour, and hopefully have some finishes or at least some progress on several projects.

Prologue Tour de Fibre 2013

001

Wating for Tour de Fibre to start saturday, I found an old UFO that I wanted to have focus on now.  Some years ago Bunny Hill gave these blocks as a free pattern on her blog.  It is called A Tisket A Tasket, a bucket full of baskets.  Discovered that I had two more blocks to prepp.

002

It is fun prepping the blocks, but my sewing room looks like a mess with a lot of fabrics all over the floor.  Even if there is just some small pieces to make, I have to find the perfect fabric and that one is always the last one you dig out of the fabric drawer.

003

Doing some applique while wating for my Tour de Fibre guest to arrive.

And Hanne came visiting me yesterday, and we drove down to Flisa to visit Kreative Ingema, my local quiltshop.

001002

She has my kind of fabric in her shop and we always find some goodies to buy.

005

I have a plan with these fabrics. Perhaps you will see what during TdF.

Testing the batting tape

001

Today my plan was to baste my Antique Sampler quilt and the Red Home quilt.  I have a lot of batting, but it was too small, so I had to join the pieces.  Earlier I have sewed them together, but this time I wanted to use the tape I bought yesterday.

002

And it works perfectly!!!!  Just put the tape on top of the batting and ironed it down.  This was a great find at the quiltshop and I can recomend it to all of you.

003

The Red Home quilt and Antique Sampler is now ready to be quilte.

Workin on my UFO’s

001

First finsh this month.  Love this little table centre that I finished today. It is from the Red Home book by Natalie Bird. It was very easy to make.

002003

I will use it on my round table at my front porch.  That’s where I am sitting when it is too hot on the other porch.  Perhaps I have to find a smaller flower now because it is hiding the stitchery.

004

Then I went together with two friends to the quiltshop.  I was going to buy some backing for my Red Home quilt.  I found  the backing, and it is now washed and ready.

007

I also found this Heat Press Batting Togther.  I have a lot of batting that I can put together to bigger pieces.  And this tape is used to tape the pieces together.  Looing forward to give this a try.

005006

Another UFO is in progress of being finished.  I have promised Hanne that I will focus on my UFO’s this month……and next month when we start Tour de Fibre.  But that is in between my sewing on my Floral Beauty.  This quilt was already basted and ready to be quilted.  And actually this is the first time I have done some freemotion quilting with my new sewingmachine.

008

And I really love this quiltfoot.  Much more easier to see where I am going with my lines, but I still have to practise a lot more.

Floral beauty

002

Not much sewing in my corner these days, but when I have relaxed in front of the tv I have done some needleturn.  Just a few stitches each day, and suddenly all my prepped blocks for the Floral Beauty quilt was done.  Prepping some more blocks now.  What’s taking the longest time is to choose fabrics. Still have a lot of thinking to do to match the fabrics. And my sewingroom is a mess right now.

Red Home progress :)

001

I had one big goal this weekend, and that was to finish the Red Home quilt top.  Started to add the first border.

002

And then the second border.  Sewed the triangle border yesterday so they were redy to be sewed on.  Love how the triangleborder puts the whole quilt together.

003

And then I started to make the outher border.  I love Moda French General fabrics, but this time I did not like border on the fabric.  Too big, so I had to cut the outher border a little bit smaller than it should be to get enough fabric.

004

The outher border is on.

008

And here is the whole quilt top finished.  I LOVE IT!!

009

In the original pattern there was a dog on this scooter.  But no dogs in my quilts house, so I added a cat instead.

010

This is my favorite block in this quilt.

006

I have also found some fabrics to use for the backing.  Have them in my washingmachine now, and then I have to sew them together. Think I have big enough batting to get the quilt basted soon.

011

This was the box I stored my Red Home blocks while doing the applique.  Ready to empty it now….

012

…..but then I discovered an UFO.

013

This is also from the Red Home book. It is going to be a table centre and I will start finishing this one now.  I already have the red fabrics from the Red Home quilt out on the table.

But first relaxing with some needleturn.

Ufo focus :)

Hanne made this post today telling about her UFO’s.  And I so agree when she says she does not like to count her UFO’s, I too like much better to count my finishes.  Inspired by her post I started to look at all my UFO’s.

005

I loke to store my on going projects in boxes.  But even though they are stored in my sewing room shelf and I can see them every they, the some sort of stays in those boxes

001

And in the drawer in my sewingroom I have even more UFO’s.  Those are the ones I really do not remember having at all.  But tomorrow I have decided to look through it and perhaps I can find one or two that are fast and easy to finish.  I really need some fast finishes now.

006

Have a lot of quilts that are ready to be quilted.  Some I will handquilt I think, so they are not fast finishes. But there is also some I am going to machine quilt.

007

The Red Home Quilte was an UFO that I pulled out of a box some weeks ago.  And this will have my main focus now.  Today I have sewed all the triangles together and sewed together two of the rows.  Hope to have the top finished this weekend.

008

And in between I focus on needleturn projects.  Like this Floral Beauty quilt.  The four blocks at the bottom I have appliqued this week.  The colours are so wrong at this photo, but you get some idea of how it is.

Like Hanne I am preparing for Tour de Fibre 2013.  Hope you will join us this year too.  Starting in the end of June with champagne and strawberries.

Do you take the challenge to show your UFO’s?????

And do you want to focus on some UFO’s this month???
